Electronic Return Receipt (ERR) for USPS Certified MailApril 11th, 2007

The U.S. Postal Service began providing electronic proof of Certified Mail letter delivery in 2001. When each Certified Mail letter is delivered the letter carrier records delivery information for each letter electronically including the Signature of the person that accepts the letter.
Electronic Return Receipt (ERR) provides the mailer proof of delivery for each USPS Certified Mail letter mailed in the United States. What happens to the green card Return Receipt? The old fashioned USPS green Return Receipt card has been an icon of Certified Mail for more than 230 years. This courtesy reply card has been used to provide proof the letter was delivered. This little green postcard has been difficult for both the mailer and the U.S. Postal Service to manage. Mailers have reported the cards missing, stuck inside other pieces of mail and very timely to organize file and manage.
In July 2001, the U.S. Postal Service began providing electronic proof of Certified Mail letter delivery. When a Certified Mail letter is delivered by the letter carrier the delivery information for each letter is electronically recorded including the Signature of the person that accepts the letter. The information is electronically stored in the USPS central data tracking center in California, then stored for future access by the mailer. Tracking and delivery information about each mailing is accessible to each miler using the Internet and a 7 year record of the delivery information is stored online in your Certified Mail Envelope account.
Certified Mail Envelopes include Electronic Return Receipt and 'in-route' letter tracking. The information is archived and stored in your account for 7 years so you can access the information and print the Electronic Return Receipt or letter tracking information 24/7 from any computer and print the reports to your local printer.
Electronic Return Receipt - ERR (TM) is used by Certified Mail customers nationwide and is quickly replacing the old traditional Green Card. The Electronic Return Receipt saves mailers and the U.S. Postal Service time and money. It eliminates lost Green Cards and can be tracked using a patented ETC (Electronic Tracking Confirmation) service that is included with each Certified Mail Envelope mailed. The Electronic Return Receipt (Green Card) can be printed as needed to your printer. You can even download the proof of delivery data into an Excel or CSV data file to integrate the information into your companies data vault.
