Schmincke Primacryl is a lovely acrylic. They are especially proud of their Titanium White colour. They say: “Unmatched titanium white: highest pigmentation, opacity and high spreading rate for brilliant mixtures.” I thought I would give it a little test. My standard for most opaque (most pigment) Titanium White is Golden Artists Acrylics. So I thought I would compare the two. Although it is difficult to be sure you have the same exact amount of paint for each stroke, I tried to be accurate. I used a permanent marker pen on a piece of scrap card in my studio. Over the marker I then applied the two paints side-by-side with brush strokes and a palette knife application. See the results in the photo below. I think the two are pretty comparable. So it seems that the Schmincke Primacryl and the Golden Artists Acrylic Heavy Body have a similar pigment load in their titanium whites. Possibly the Primacryl is a shade more opaque. With whites, as with other artists colours, you do get what you pay for. More pigment = more opaque coverage = higher cost. Comparing two makes of highly-pigmented Titanium White acrylic.
