Little to no prep work is required - a light sanding is recommended for glossy surfaces. Then just clean the surface, apply the acrylic paint with a brush, and let dry for two hours between each coat for a picture-perfect finished product. This chalk paint works great for distressing as well. No sealer is required, but a protective coat of wax would be beneficial for high use surfaces.
