Description

Bench Dog spokeshaves are your go-to hand tool for creating chamfers and roundovers, and shaping chair legs and spindles. Originally used for shaping wagon wheel spokes, they were also the traditional tool for cleaning up curved edges after bandsawing. They are fast, clean and effective, leaving shavings rather than dust. This model is fashioned after the well-loved Stanley #151, featuring twin knurled wheels for easy, accurate adjustments.

Spare Blade for Bench Dog No. 151 Spokeshave - Rockler

Our flexible draw knife has 5 inches of workable edge designed to flex around contours where large amounts of stock need to be removed quickly. The tool can be flexed to accommodate concave or convex surfaces. Cuts can be made that conform more closely to the finished shape taking less time to sand or scrape. The curved edge gives a skew-like cutting action for a low resistance cut. This tool works great for carving chair legs hollowing chair bottoms or quickly roughing-out decoys.

Use the Bench Dog Chisel Plane to reach into tight corners for smoothing imperfections or removing dried glue. It's also perfect for paring dowel ends and through-tenons flush with the surrounding surface, and for trimming edge banding. Because it has no sole ahead of the blade, you get full visibility and unrestricted access to almost any area. The sole behind the cutting edge registers the iron at the perfect angle for smooth, flush cuts.

It is typically held with one hand, with the tote tucked into the web of your thumb and your fingers lightly cupping the cheeks of the plane. However, it may also be used with two hands for negotiating tricky grain. Thanks to its high angle, which helps to tame tear-out, it is the ideal solution for cleaning up problem areas in large panels with reversing grain.
