Description

Uncut sheets of counterfeit 250 Iraqi Dinar notes are displayed during a September 24, 2003 press conference at the Al Qanot police Station in Baghdad, Iraq. Iraqi Police detectives from the station, along with investigators from the U.S. Army 812th Military Police Company, confiscated an estimated 20 Billion dinars in what they say is the largest counterfeiting ring bust in Iraqi history. The joint raid took place on September 18, 2003 in Baghdad, and resulted in the arrest of six suspects. The Iraqi Dinar, adorned with images of deposed leader Saddam Hussein is scheduled to be phased out beginning October 15, 2003 with new notes being issued, and counterfeiters are suspected to be producing large amounts of the fake notes in hopes of cashing in during the changeover.
