ABOUT THE IMAGE: Lady - This handsome rough animation drawing of Lady was created by Disney animator Harvey Toombs in development of a scene in Walt Disney's CinemaScope animated feature. At the arrival of Jim Dear and Darling's baby, the frantic new father sees the doctor to the door and then races upstairs calling: It's a boy! It's a boy! Lady starts after him, then pauses as she hears Aunt Sarah's voice on the telephone dangling nearby: Hello – Hello – Jim – Are you there, Jim?

Harvey Toombs supervised the animation of Lady in this scene, and this drawing is his work. Mr. Toombs' first animated for Disney on Pinocchio (1940) (uncredited) and for the next 20 years served as character animator on shorts and features through Sleeping Beauty (1959) and How to Have an Accident in the Home (1956) with Donald Duck. He received animation credit on Dumbo (1941), Alice in Wonderland (1951), Peter Pan (1953), and other films. The animator wrote the designation 161 at lower right to indicate this original's place in the scene.

Tramp - This lively rough animation drawing of Tramp was created by Disney animator Cliff Nordberg and his assistant in development of a scene in Walt Disney's CinemaScope animated feature. Although there is no grid it is undoubtedly an animator's extreme. After he secures breakfast at Tony's Restaurant Tramp frees Bull and Peg from the Dog Catcher's wagon and distracts the dog catcher. Then he escapes himself, running in a pan shot that dissolves into a scene in Lady's neighborhood—Snob Hill where the leash and collar set live and there's a lid on every trash can. This drawing is from the very end of the scene.

ABOUT THE MEDIUM:  Original Production Drawings are one-of-a-kind pieces of art that were used in the creation of an animated film or television show. Each has been hand-drawn by a studio artist.
