Prof. Habib Noorbhai completed his doctoral thesis on the backlift in cricket, and was amongthe first scientists to theorize the lateral batting backlift technique in cricket. Prof Noorbhai isan Associate Professor and Director of the Biomedical Engineering and Healthcare Technology(BEAHT) Research Center at the University of Johannesburg (UJ). He is also a sports scientistand has worked with local and international cricket teams since 2010.He is co-author of research published in Scientific Reports:UJ researchers built the first deep learning AI model to spot which backlift style cricket batters use –straight or lateral.
